Nose Surgery

Communication between the patient and the plastic surgeon before carrying out the operation of sticking the nose, plays an important role in equating the perception and expectations of the desired outcome. Good communication can also prevent complications after nose surgery. Nasal surgery or in the medical world known as rhinoplasty is any surgical procedure performed on the nose area, not just a surgery to make a nose plunge that is popular among the people. This article will discuss the preparations, actions, treatments, and complications of nose surgery. But it helps you get to know the various types of nose surgery first.

Types of Nose Surgery

One of the goals of a person undergoing nose surgery is to enhance their appearance and increase self-confidence. Some actions that can be done to beautify your nose are:
  • Sharpening the nose surgery

  • Surgery is performed to increase the height of the nasal trunk by inserting solid silicon or cartilage in the nose. Rhinoplasty in Indonesia is synonymous with this operation.
  • Surgery to reduce nose height (nose reduction)

  • Surgery to reduce the height of the bridge of the nose is done by sculpting (reducing) excess bone or protruding bone.
  • Nasal lobe surgery

  • Surgery that aims to change the shape of the nasal lobe to be narrower (smaller) or wider (large).
  • Nasal peak surgery (nasal tip)

  • This type of surgery will change the shape of the nasal top.
In addition to aesthetic reasons, nose surgery can also be done after a nasal injury or in certain diseases, such as tumors in the nose, to restore the shape of the nose and improve its function. This type of nose surgery is called nose reconstruction surgery.

Preparation for Operation Sharpening the Nose

During the initial consultation, you will be asked how you want your nose to look after the operation. After that, the doctor will evaluate the structure of your nose and face, and explain what factors can affect the operation, both the type of action and the outcome. These factors include bone shape and nasal cartilage, face shape, thickness of the skin around the nose, age, smoking habits, and patient expectations. After agreement is reached on the expected results, the doctor will take photographs of various positions, from the front position showing the entire face, side position 45 degrees, side position 90 degrees, and the position of the head holding up. Be sure to tell your doctor if you have had nose surgery or had an injury to the nose area before, even though it happened a few years ago. You also need to tell your doctor if you have an allergy to certain medicines.

Nasal Surgery Actions

For the operation of a sharp nose, plastic surgeons have two incision techniques. The first is a closed incision, which is an incision made on the inside of the nostrils so that the scars are not visible from the outside. Then the second is an open incision, which is an incision made on the nose that is visible from the outside, but in a position that is not easily visible and the end result will be disguised. Nasal beating surgery is done as follows:
  • The patient lies on his back and the operated area will be sterilized with a special solution to be free of germs.
  • Then a sterile cloth with a hole in the middle will be installed. The hole in the fabric will be occupied by the nose and the rest can cover the entire face, so it might make you a little uncomfortable. Even if it's uncomfortable, you are not advised to touch it, just tell the doctor what you feel.
  • The doctor will start drawing the design of the incision in the nose area using special ink.
  • After that, an anesthetic will be injected which also has the effect of reducing bleeding.
  • Usually surgery is performed under local anesthesia, but in patients who cannot stand the pain of injection or are afraid, they will be subjected to general anesthesia, so that the patient will be unconscious when the operation is performed. If you choose general anesthesia, the anesthesia process will be carried out from the beginning of the action. If you choose local anesthesia, the doctor will do a pain test before starting to cut the operating area according to design.
  • After cutting, the doctor will make a cavity in the bridge of the nose, precisely between the skin with the nasal bone, as a place to insert silicone implants. In addition to silicon, cartilage can also be taken from behind the ear.
  • After the implant occupies the cavity, the incision will be sewn again. Cross-shaped tape will also be placed on the bridge of the nose, which serves to prevent the implant from moving.
After the operation is complete, you just have to wait for the results of the process of sticking your nose.

Treatment After Surgery Sharpens the Nose

After the effects of the anesthesia are gone, you will feel pain. This pain will gradually disappear within one week after surgery. Besides pain, you will also find it hard to breathe from the nose. These complaints are common due to blood clots that form during surgery, and will disappear within 1-2 weeks. You will also experience swelling and bruising around the operating area, including the lower eyelid. This swelling will peak on the second or third day after surgery, and will disappear within 2-3 weeks. To help the healing process, you are advised to do the following:
  • Apply cold compresses to the swollen area.
  • Wash your face with soap that does not irritate kullit, for example baby soap.
  • Don't exercise for at least 2-3 weeks, because exercise has the potential to increase your blood pressure.
  • Avoid touching, pressure, let alone the impact on the nose area, at least for 8 weeks.
  • Avoid sun exposure, and use a sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 when traveling.
  • Avoid smoking, drinking alcoholic beverages, and taking blood-thinning drugs such as aspirin.
  • Avoid blowing your nose for 1 week after surgery.

Complications of Surgery for Sharpening the Nose

Ideally, the nose will look better within 2-3 weeks, and the final result will be obtained 6 months to 1 year after surgery. Although rare, in the recovery process, patients are at risk of experiencing the following conditions:
  • Infection of the surgical wound. To prevent this, as much as possible avoid touching the area operated on, in the first 5 days.
  • Permanent numbness. This condition occurs due to an injured nerve.
  • Scarring or scar formation after surgery.
  • Formation of a hole in the bulkhead between the nostrils.
In addition to medical complications, there is also a psychological impact due to the operation of sticking the nose. This is caused by the different treatments that you might get from other people, or the shape of the nose that you desire is apparently not compatible with your face. Therefore, first discuss your expectations with a plastic surgeon, before you decide to undergo surgery to stick your nose. This is necessary, so that the final result is in accordance with the initial goal, which is to improve appearance and increase self-confidence.
